Care Cost Explained

Step 1: Assessing Eligibility

The first step in considering entry into an Australian Government-subsidised aged care home is to undergo a free assessment with an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). This assessment, conducted by a doctor and/or other healthcare professionals, will determine your eligibility for care and identify the specific care services you may need.

Step 2: Understanding Costs

Before choosing a residence, it’s important to have a clear understanding of the costs and fees involved in aged care. These include accommodation fees and daily care costs. We’re here to help guide you through the financial side of things and find the best options for your needs. It is also advisable to speak to a financial advisor about your individual financial situation to ensure you make the most informed decision.

Step 3: Start Your Search

Once you have completed the ACAT assessment and received approval for residential aged care, you can begin visiting and applying to different aged care homes. This is the time to explore your options and find the right place that meets your needs.

Step 4: Enjoy a Private Tour of Our Home

We understand that choosing an aged care home can feel like a big decision, and we’re here to help make it easier. We invite you to visit one of our residences to see for yourself the warm, welcoming atmosphere we create. A place where residents feel at home, with friendly staff, happy faces, and plenty of opportunities for social connection. Book a private tour with us – we’re excited to show you around and answer all your questions!

For a private tour of our home, please fill out our Enquire form.

Step 5: Applying to an Aged Care Home

To apply for a place at Nexia Aged Care, you can contact us directly at 1300 384 004 or click here to access our Enquiry form. We’ll then be able to understand your unique care needs and ensure the right support is provided.

Step 6: Agreements with Your Aged Care Home

If you are offered a place in an aged care home, you will need to sign a residential agreement before moving in. This formal agreement outlines the services provided, associated fees, and the rights and responsibilities of both you and the facility.

Step 7: Settle into Nexia Aged Care

Once you’ve received your confirmation and moving date, it’s time to begin your journey with us at Nexia. We know that transitioning to a new home can feel a bit daunting, but don’t worry—we’re here to support you every step of the way. With a friendly, welcoming community and lots of opportunities to connect, you’ll feel comfortable and at home in no time. We’re excited to help you settle in and make your new chapter a happy one.

Frequently asked questions

Residential Aged Care, also known as nursing homes or aged care homes, provides 24/7 care and support for individuals who can no longer live independently. When you move into an aged care home, you receive your own room and essential services such as meals, laundry, and cleaning, as well as personal care like assistance with showering or using the bathroom. Clinical care is tailored to your specific needs, and there are also social activities, outings, and lifestyle programs to help you stay connected and engaged with the community. In addition to long-term care, short-term or respite aged care offers temporary support, either after a hospital stay to help you regain independence, or when your regular caregiver needs a break. It’s a flexible option designed to ensure you receive the care you need during these transitional times.
Before moving into a residential aged care facility or receiving aged care funding, you will need to be assessed by My Aged Care to determine the level of support you require. You can apply for the assessment yourself by phoning 1800 200 422 or filling in an online application through My Aged Care. Alternatively, any of the following can make a referral on your behalf:
  • Hospital professionals and admin staff
  • GPs, medical specialists, and nurses
  • Community health professionals
  • Aged care service providers
  • Community workers
The government offers funding based on your eligibility and specific care needs. For more details on how to start the process, click here.
A Registered Nurse is on duty 24/7, supported by a team of qualified care staff. We also have doctors, physiotherapists, speech pathologists, and other allied health professionals who visit regularly, as required. Our team of extended staff includes a range of professionals who support residents’ needs:
  • Personal Support Workers
  • Enrolled Nurses and Registered Nurses
  • Lifestyle Coordinators
  • Maintenance and Support Staff
  • Chefs and Kitchen/Café Staff
  • Allied Health Professionals
  • Residence Managers and Administrative Staff
Allied Health Professionals, such as music therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and psychologists, help ensure the best care for our residents.
We don’t have fixed visiting hours as we consider the home to be a resident’s private space. However, in case of an outbreak (e.g., COVID-19 or flu), visiting hours may be temporarily adjusted. Please contact reception for updates.
At Nexia Aged Care, we offer “ageing in place,” meaning that as residents’ care needs increase, they can remain in their current home. We adapt care to support residents’ evolving physical and mental health needs without needing to move them to a different facility.
